Frank Gambuzza uses a razor to remove density and change the texture of the hair. "It's all about versatility and flexibility," Gambuzza, owner of Salon Visage, Knoxville, Tennessee, says. "I want the hair to move and be the fabric that I want it to be. I want to alter the wave pattern and remove some of the strength."

His tips:

-Work on wet hair.

-Remove the front 1/2 inch section and keep 1/2 inch from the scalp.

-Hold razor lightly and press with minimal pressure.

-Use a comb with some strength so it doesn't bend.

-Hold razor parallel to the hair, not perpendicular.

-Cut from front to back and from side to side.
