Tami Manis of Knoxville, Tennessee officially holds the Guinness World Records title for the world’s longest competitive mullet (female). At 5'8", Manis’ mullet measures taller than her.

The public health nurse says she was inspired to begin growing her hair in the 80s when she saw a video by Til Tuesday called Voices Carry. “The [singer] had a rattail and I really wanted one of those,” she shared.

Influenced by a barber telling her the style did not suit her, Manis cut her hair in November of 1989. Immediately regretting her decision, she committed to growing it once more, marking February 9, 1990, as her hair's official birthday.

“I’ve been blessed that my hair grows and now it’s the world’s longest mullet and I’m very happy with it.”

True to form, Manis shares that most people don’t notice how long her mullet is until she turns around and they see it from the back.

Feeling fortunate that she has been able to grow her hair, Manis goes to great lengths to take care of her record-holding locks. Hask hair products and an Argan oil-infused conditioner have become key ingredients to keeping her hair healthy and strong.

After receiving her certificate in the mail, Manis confirmed she was in fact the GWR title holder for the longest competitive mullet (female) and that she would be featured in Guinness World Records 2024.

“I reverified that I’m actually in the 2024 edition of Guinness World Records for the longest mullet and that is pretty amazing!”
